Writing Centre

Learning Goals: Literacy, Emergent Writing, Communication, Expression

    • Students write letters, make cards, create stories, or any other form of expression to communicate their ideas on paper at the Writing Centre.
    • Writing can take many different forms. Children can use drawing, symbols, and inventive spelling to write and communicate their ideas.
    • Placing the writing centre near classroom resources, such as a word wall or alphabet chart, will help facilitate children’s writing.
    • Educators can engage with children in the writing centre to support and extend children’s writing development.

We are the Play Learning Lab, run by Dr. Angela Pyle at the Dr. Eric Jackman Institute of Child Study of the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education/University of Toronto.
