Vegetable Garden

Learning Goals: Environmental Responsibility, Sensory Play, Communication and Problem-Solving Skills. 

    • Provide individual or several large containers to plant a vegetable garden.
    • With the students, fill containers with soil and plant a variety of vegetable plants and seeds.
    • Engage students in discussions about how plants grow and document the changes the plants undergo using student observations, drawings, and charts.
    • Introduce science concepts such as the role of photosynthesis, why plants need sunlight and water.

We are the Play Learning Lab, run by Dr. Angela Pyle at the Dr. Eric Jackman Institute of Child Study of the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education/University of Toronto.
