Playdough Numbers

Learning Goals: Numeracy, Math, Identifying Numerals, Forming Numerals, Mutually-Directed Play

As part of an educator-led centre activity, children use playdough to form numerals that corresponds with the numbers on their placemat.

Students can practice naming each number and placing loose parts in the blank ten frame to represent the quantity for that number.

The educator and child are both directing the play; the educator guides the child towards achieving a specific goal through the play activity (i.e. forming numbers, practice number names, and counting), yet how the activity is completed is determined by the child.
