Phonetic Sounds Game

Learning Goals: Literacy, Teacher-Directed Game, Phonemic Awareness, Letter-Sound Knowledge, Letter Recognition

This is a quick game that can take place during snack time, or when children are in transitions.

In a group of students, ask students what sound the first letter of their name makes.

Ask them what would happen if they replaced it with another sound. What would their name sound like?

Optional: use a whiteboard to indicate Letter-Sound Correspondance.

The educator has prepared the game and determined the rules and steps of how to play the game.

This teacher-directed game supports students’ phonemic awareness as they work through the sounds individually while other students (who are waiting for their turn) get to actively listen.
