Letter Memory Game
Skills: Letter Recognition, Alphabet Knowledge, Phonics
Students play a memory-matching game using pairs of letter cards. Pairs may contain two matching uppercase letters or matching uppercase and lowercase forms of the same letter. Cards are placed face down, and students take turns flipping over two cards, naming each letter aloud as they reveal it. When a matching pair is found, students keep the cards and continue playing until all matches have been made.
- Observe students to determine when support or extension may be needed.
- Model strategies for identifying and remembering letters by drawing attention to their shapes and distinguishing features.
- Prompt students to name letters and discuss similarities and differences between uppercase and lowercase forms.
- Support students in using visual cues to remember the location of previously revealed letters.
- Extend learning by asking students to produce the sound associated with each matched letter.
- Further extend learning by inviting students to generate words that begin with the matched letter sound.
- Letter card pairs (uppercase-uppercase or uppercase-lowercase matches)
