Flower Shop

- Transform an area in the classroom into a flower shop.
- Model how to take orders, prepare flowers, and write receipts.
- Children can assume roles of:
- Customers: completing order forms and count change to pay for their flowers.
- Shopkeepers: reading the orders, writing receipts, and using a cash register to sort coins and provide change.

- The educator extended children’s play by initiating a conversation about shopkeepers and running a store. The educator then integrated academic learning goals into children’s play by modeling how to write order forms and receipts, as well as how to count money and provide change.
- The idea for the flower shop was co-created by the students and educators. Within this play activity, the students decided how to use the materials and interact with their peers.
