Dot Plates

Learning Goals: Math, Subitizing, Number Recognition, Numeracy, Counting

    • Write numerals or draw dots on paper plates or piece of cardstock.
    • The children roll a die, identify the number of dots on the die and find the plate with the matching numeral.
    • To extend this activity, support children in rolling two dice, adding these numbers together, and locating the corresponding numeral. When adding two numbers, a helpful strategy is to begin with the biggest number and “count on” by the smaller number (e.g. 5 counting on 2 more is 7).
