    • Set up multiple sets of items with various quantities (i.e. 12 sticks, 7 rocks, 20 buttons, etc.).
    • The children count the items in a set to determine the quantity, then they match the numeral card to that set (i.e. 8 of seashells matched to the 5 numeral card).
    • Next, support the children in arranging the sets in order of smallest to biggest (or biggest to smallest) quantity.
    • To extend learning, the educator can support children in matching multiple representations of number (i.e. numerals, number words, dot arrangements) to the sets.
