Marble Run
Learning Goals: Child-Directed Play, Spatial Reasoning, Problem-Solving, Hand/ Eye Coordination, Observation and Testing
-
Provide students with marble run pieces to create structures.
-
Encourage them to explore building a marble run to test out how the marbles move through it.
-
Provide marbles when the child is ready to test their structure.
-
Play can be extended into a variety of inquiry trajectories from building successful marble runs to measuring speed of marbles.
-
- Marble Run Pieces (any type of tubing that can connect and fit a marble through it)
- Marbles
- To extend their structures, students can use classroom materials that create more challenging marble runs (chairs, desks, blocks)
- The educator provided the materials for this center, and students choose to explore and intiate play.
- This activity allows students to direct their own play by exploring building and testing their structure.
