Acorn Number Bonds

Learning Goals: Number Sense, Composing and Decomposing Numbers, Addition

    • Place acorns, addition cards, and number bond mats on table.
      • If possible, include students in collecting acorns outside!
    • Encourage students to take on the role of "Kindergarten Squirrels" who are hiding acorns in different circles.
    • Have students flip over an addition card and "hide" each number of acorns in the smaller circles.
    • Combine both circles together to see how many acorns make up your squirrel meal!
    • As an extension: have students record their addition statements to see all the acorn meals they had!
