Guided Play Project

How can guided play support literacy development?

Educators teaching early primary students at The Mabin School have been working with Dr. Angela Pyle to learn about, plan, and implement guided play activities to support the development of students' literacy skills. The Junior Kindergartens have been working on improving their oral language communication, the Senior Kindergartens have been working on learning CVC and high frequency words, and the Grade Ones have been using play to improve their writing. We are so pleased to share the activities they have developed with you!

We are the Play Learning Lab, run by Dr. Angela Pyle at the Dr. Eric Jackman Institute of Child Study of the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education/University of Toronto.
