Veterinary Clinic

Veterinary Clinic

Learning Goals: Literacy, Writing Conventions, Inventive Spelling, Phonological Awareness

    • During free play, the students in the class created a pet shop. The educator noticed the play ended after the buying/selling of pets. To extend the play, the class had a discussion on how to make their pet shop more interesting and decided to create a veterinary clinic.
    • Together, the class discussed the materials they needed to create the clinic and the educator wrote down the students’ ideas and modelled phonetic spelling strategies.
    • The educator provided students with the materials while the students created signs for the reception area and forms for patients to fill out.
    • During play, the students took on various roles such as pet owners, receptionist, and veterinarians.
