Link Cube Measuring

Learning Goals: Number Sense, Measurement, Mathematical Language, Comparison

    • Provide students with a bucket of linking cubes for them to use.
    • Have them go to the classroom library and look for books to measure.
    • Before measuring, you can ask them to predict which book has a bigger length or width.
    • Have them measure and count out the length and width of their chosen books using the linking cubes.
    • Look to watch for them demonstrating how to line up their measurement correctly.
    • As an extension: have them record the length and width on a sheet of paper and slip it inside their book. Use this to keep track of which books have been measured and work together as a class to measure every book!
