Building with Word Families

Overview: 

An activity that presents word families visually to help students build vocabulary and spelling.

Implementation/Ideas:

  • Using blocks (or Lego blocks), include labels with different word family endings (such as “ap”, “at”, “eat” etc.) and different letters. Students are encouraged to build towers based on word families by combining the pieces.
     

  • Having puzzles including word family endings and beginning letters for students to complete.
